1) Read the freakin' rules! If you don't you are wasting everyone's time, mostly your own. Most linklist operators have a seni-automated system, they look at a site, if it doesn't fit the rules it only takes seconds to delete it.
Also a few of them won't tell you when your site is rejected, so if you have a recip up you're giving away traffic. That wouldn't happen if you had read the freakin' rules!

2) Never use fake recips, meaning if you don't have an account a Tommy's BookMarks, don't put his recip up to try and bullshit other LL owners. You will be found out and blacklisted.

3) Your odds of getting listed with the big players are nil if you use free hosting or free hosted content.  Original or nearly new content hosted by you, will likely get you listed with just about everyone.

4) Free Sites usually need a front page with a legal warning and 2257 info, a main page, and two gallery pages.  Rules vary though, so read 'em. Most linklists also frown on pop-ups, disabled back buttons and blind links, basically anything that would piss off a surfer.

5) If you have a gazillion sponsors, only list a few. Most link lists only allow three ads per page, and a lot of them don't like ads that use javascript. If you are using sponsor content make you follow their rules as well.

6) Optimize your pics, not everyone is on cable and you want your site to load fast. I use Fireworks for this but there are a lot of other programs out there, most are probably cheaper.

7) I've always found that a bit of humour helps, get a guy with half a hardon, a smile on his face, and a credit card, and you've got a sale. It's that Happy Fuzzy Horny Feeling kind of thing :)

8) Don't cheat! Be honest and prosper, if you don't fly straight the word gets around very quickly. A lot of former wm's have went tits up for cheating, you don't want to be one, damn, you'd have to get a REAL JOB, a fate I wouldn't  wish on anyone :)

10) AVS Sites are easily markedted through link lists as well. Build your AVS site as usual, but when you submit it to the AVS for review make sure that your first page is called enter.htm, page1.htm, welcome.htm, or sone such, NOT index.htm(l). Make a copy of your first page and name it index.htm, add your recips to the linklists, upload it, and submit it to the link lists. This keeps the AVS happy because they have a clean first page for their internal linklist, and keeps the linklist owners happy because they are getting the same amount of traffic from your AVS site as they would a free site.
